My diving journey

Diving in Sri Lanka into the wreck

Diving into the wreck of Sri LankaSri Lanka a small country off the southern tip of India recently emerged from a civil war that ended in 2011. It is certainly no Singapore Airport in terms of systems and procedures and it's definitely not a success like the Singapore Sling. In fact if we have to compare it to anything it would have to be the Malaysia airlines missing plane. It's taking off but where or where is it going to land?

As I go diving into the wreck of my life I can truly understand why Sri Lanka is so appealing to me. Beaches, wildlife, culture and often very warm and friendly people. Most people have never heard of a Singapore Sling and fewer still would grasp the concept that a Singapore sling is a symbol of success that represents a talent/ability that we all have and can reproduce to enhance our lives. Singapore Slings are a foreign concept to the majority of the population and whilst everyone purports to want to get ahead, few have the dedication commitment or knowledge necessary to succeed.

I realize as I'm diving into the wreck of my own life that I have reverted to default position. Everything that Singapore airport taught me has been abandoned, I have been sidetracked and derailed by a new and unfamiliar environment, the know how to produce my very own Singapore Sling tossed aside as I run with the masses.

People here are not ready to be like Singapore airport, they are only on the first rung of the ladder happy to be a worker, to work long hours for controlling bosses with little financial reward. That is their idea of a Singapore Sling! When there is a problem at Singapore airport management respond immediately taking any necessary action to resolve the issue and the system running.

Sri Lankans are different, their national hobby seems to be diving into the wreck of their lives everyone is keen to share their problems, which normally revolve around lack of money. However, unlike Singapore Airport they seem unable/reluctant to resolve issues themselves and instead want you to hand them money so the problem goes away, until the next time that is.

Sri Lankans function in the same way as the Malaysia airlines missing plane they take off with a destination in mind but shortly after take off they go missing in action leaving everyone wondering what went wrong, where they have gone and how to clean up the mess.

Systems are endemic to Singapore airport and ironically systems are endemic to Sri Lanka the difference being Singapore airport incorporates systems for commercial reasons whilst Sri Lankans use systems for religious practices - going regularly to church/mosque/temple picking Jasmine flowers daily to scent the water.

The workers in Singapore airport know they are in a system but the worshippers in Sri Lanka have no clue they have been systemized. What is there to learn from all of this? Simple if you want to get ahead you must adopt the guidelines necessary to keep Singapore airport running.

By all means go diving into the wreck of your life but then deal with the issues, introduce or improve systems and get rid of your excess baggage. But above all make sure you enjoy a Singapore sling or two a long the way.
